Content Design Example 1: Interactive lesson quiz

Situation: In testing our commercial product (Mahana for IBS), we learned that having an interactive quiz in the first session of the program helped with engagement. It was something users enjoyed and helped them recall what they had learned.

Approach: I designed a 5-question quiz for product X incorporating learnings from testing and copy best practices, including:

  • Incorporating five questions that highlighted five key points we wanted users to take away from Session 1 that also reinforced the value of the product and therapy

  • Ensuring the questions were easy and the correct answer obvious to keep users motivated and to showcase what they learned

  • Upholding Mahana's voice that's friendly, knowledgeable, accessible, and empowering

Content Design Example 2: Engaging first lesson

Situation: Through testing, we also learned the first lesson of the digital program was key for buy-in and getting users engaged. In collaboration with our clinical team, we incorporated testing insights, behavioral science practices, and copy updates to repurposed intro screens.

Approach: I wrote and designed a new lesson 1 incorporating the following:

  • Five questions to start the lesson that ask about users' experience with condition X to show empathy, inclusion, and to help us personalize the program to them

  • More minimal copy on screens to both quickly convey the point and keep users moving through the lesson

  • More everyday examples in plain language users could relate to

  • More questions in the body copy to engage users and prompt them to apply what they're learning to their own life

  • More interactive elements that help explain key concepts in a fun, accessible way (like the "Eating a lemon" visualization below)
